How about that weather?

December 21, 2011

Hi all,
Were Tony and I to chat today, the subject of the relatively balmy weather would have almost certainly arisen, as in this hypothetical conversation.

PHILIP
“So how are you liking global warming so far?”

TONY
“I don’t think it’s been this nice on the first day of winter since [insert distant year].”

PHILIP
“Do you think it’s getting warmer, generally speaking?”

TONY
“Sometimes, but it depends on the weather, if you know what I mean.” [I think Tony would flash his excellent smile at this point.]

As he likes it

TONY
“There ain’t nothing better than when it gets warm again after it’s been really, really cold. You know it was -30 with that wind the other night. That’s not for me, that’s for sure, not anymore anyway.”

Up where he belongs

PHILIP
“Hey, where did you sleep last night? I think they said it was going down to -20C with the windchill.”

TONY
“I got lucky. My friend let me use a bed in their house so it was OK. It even wasn’t in the basement, so it was pretty toasty too.”

Hockey fan

TONY
“At least you know when it’s cold, there’s going to be hockey on. I’ll tell you, that’s the best thing I’m thinking about winter right now. Coo-oo-oold.”

Same time, next year

October 22, 2010

TONY
“Cold again this morning, eh? This is going to take some getting used to, same as every year.”

Am I tough enough for it?

December 13, 2009

PHILIP
“Cold enough for you?”

TONY
“You gotta admit too, I’m tough enough for it. Not many people can say that, if you know what I mean.”

Young men

November 23, 2009

PHILIP
“I’ve got to say, you’re looking awful healthy for a guy who thought he might be dying a few weeks ago. Great ruddy complexion, everything. If I wanted to be sarcastic, I’d say you should spend more time in ICU.”

TONY
“My Mom told me that you shouldn’t read books by their covers, if you know what I mean.”

PHILIP
“So you’re not doing OK?”

TONY
“Most of me is all right, actually. But you got to know, that Old Man winter is coming. It’s in the bones, young man.”
