How about that weather?

December 21, 2011

Hi all,
Were Tony and I to chat today, the subject of the relatively balmy weather would have almost certainly arisen, as in this hypothetical conversation.

PHILIP
“So how are you liking global warming so far?”

TONY
“I don’t think it’s been this nice on the first day of winter since [insert distant year].”

PHILIP
“Do you think it’s getting warmer, generally speaking?”

TONY
“Sometimes, but it depends on the weather, if you know what I mean.” [I think Tony would flash his excellent smile at this point.]

Real hot

October 12, 2011

TONY
“This heat is unreal out here. October 11th. You know, I think it’s global warming for real this time.”

It’s too late

July 21, 2011

PHILIP
“Hot enough for you?”

TONY
“They said it was going to be the hottest day ever for Toronto and they weren’t kidding, you know.”

PHILIP
“Really? It’s never been this hot ever since you can remember?”

TONY
“Not in the last 50 years, that’s for sure. Maybe I tink sometimes that it’s that global warming and now it’s catching up with us, if you know what I mean. I hope it’s not too late.”

Not hot

PHILIP
“So how’s spring working out for you so far?”

TONY
“I hate to tell you this, Phil, but I’m looking forward to global warming, if you know what I mean.”

Same time, next year

October 22, 2010

TONY
“Cold again this morning, eh? This is going to take some getting used to, same as every year.”

Apocalypse soon

October 18, 2010

TONY
“Boy, I am really, really cold right now. I’ve been cold since I got up. I’m sure it’s not the right thing to say but right now I hope global warming comes soon. And it’s not even really that cold yet, you know.”

On the sunny side of the street

October 1, 2010

TONY
“You need a jacket, Phil — it’s cold you know. Well, just walk over on the sunny side  [of the street]. It’ll be warm enough for you there.”

Wet wet wet

December 26, 2009

PHILIP
“So how are you liking the rain?”

TONY
“Are you kidding?  You gotta be sorry for the kids. I can tell you, when I was a kid, we always had snow for Christmas. Of course, we didn’t have global warming back then, if you know what I mean.”

That road not taken

PHILIP
“Where were you yesterday?  I thought you said you were going to be here.”

TONY
“I was down at St. Joe’s with heat stroke …. one minute I’m crossing that overpass, the next I remember was being in the ambulance. The paramedic told me they found me on the sidewalk, which was good since I’d have been run over if I’d been on the road.”
