The word from the street
TONY
“Coffee smells pretty good first thing in the morning, if you ask me.”
PHILIP
“Where’s it from?”
TONY
“This lady came by, she was from the States and she told me to ‘have a good Independence Day’. So, just to bug her, since she’s a Yank, I say: ‘Oh, isn’t that an American version of our Canada Day? Well, we both laughed and then she got me this coffee.”
TONY
“You know, I still remember those college kids doing their lunch counter sit-ins. What year was that, about 1960?”
PHILIP
“I believe you’re right on that.”
TONY
“Well, with the big Obama thing happening today, it shows you that impossible things sometimes happen. It’s like the miracles in the Bible — people wouldn’t believe them but they were still true, if you know what I mean.”
Go Obama.
PHILIP
“Who are you waving to?”
TONY
“That the Police Supervisor’s car. I know all the older guys. Problem is, sometimes the rookies are pretty suspicious of me.”
PHILIP
“You know, Tony, I think it’s going to be an Obama/Webb landslide.”
TONY
“Then I’d say that’s the one to ride, Phil.”
TONY
“Hey Phil, they’re now saying it’s Obama for sure. Somebody was telling me that this is the ‘Obama Revolution’. Never thought I’d see it in my own lifetime.”
PHILIP
“Did you check out the papers about Barack Obama?”
TONY
“Maybe America is going to get another chance if this guy wins their elections.”
