    I’m not sure that I feel comfortable with the title of this piece.
    Is it a play on the word ‘better’?

    Henry,
    Yes, very much so. Tony has respect for himself for the thing(s) he does better. The pun is also meant to question whether those who are of higher social status deserve that status. Thirdly, I was trying to tun the idea of “betters” on its head, viz, that Tony might be the one of the”betters” to whom others could offer more respect.

    So, no offense intended.
